A wreck full of shards and things to build a plantation. That’s what the divers found in the Wadden Sea. They called the remnants of the ship the ‘Schervenwrak’. Historical research yield a wealth of information: it was most likely the Pieter Anthony. This ship departed from Amsterdam in 1822; the final destination was Surinam. However, the voyage quickly ended; the Pieter Anthony sprung a leak on a sandbank near Texel.

The surfaced finds from this wreck tell stories about working in the jungle, living in the tropics, class differences and early nineteenth century traditions. Almost two centuries after sinking, the Pieter Anthony speaks to one’s imagination!
